Special Program in Foreign Language
// Program standard:
* The learner demonstrates understanding of a foreign language (Spanish, French, Japanese) for basic inter-cultural communication.
// General Standard (Third Year):
The learner demonstrates understanding and appreciation of a foreign language (Spanish,Frech, Japanese) through familiarization of everyday expressions in simple interaction.
// General Standard (Fourth Year):
The learner demonstrates a deeper unrstanding and appreciation of a foreign language (Spanish, french, Japanese) through the use of everyday expressions for interaction in diverse contexts.
// Background
The given the globalization of the workplace for which the graduates of secondary education are being prepared, DepED deems it expedient to bring Spanish, as well as other languages such as French, Nihongo and German back to the secondary education curriculum. Thus, starting SY 2009-2010 a Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL) which includes Spanish, Japanese and French was implemented in selected public secondary schools. In SY 2010-2011, German was added to the list of the foreign languages offered.
// Objectives * To develop students’ skills in listening, reading, writing, speaking and viewing as fundamental to acquiring communicative competence in asecond foreign language; * To prepare students for meaningful interaction in a linguistic and culturally diverse global workplace; and * To develop their understanding and appreciation of other peoples’ culture. // Mechanics? A foreign language is tried out in the last two year levels of high school when students are deemed ready to manage learning a second foreign language. The subject is offered for 120 minutes weekly in the 3rd year starting SY 2009-2010 and the same number of minutes in the 4th year in SY 2010-2011. The subject shall earn 0.6 unit credit.The subject takes the place of Career Pathways in Technology and Livelihood Education (CP-TLE) in the 3rd and 4th year. // Assessment Assessment shall follow the principles for diagnostic, formative and summative assessments. Student rating shall follow the procedure and shall adopt the factors considered in the computation of the student’s grade in the English subject. // Subject Nomenclature The subject shall appear in the Student Report Card in the Third Year as Basic Spanish/French/Japanese/German and in the Fourth Year as Intermediate Spanish/French/Japanese/German. |
